Moving to California for graduate studies in structural engineering, Patricia always aimed to use her technical education in unorthodox ways.
While still a graduate student, Patricia led discussion sections for graduate-level engineering courses and tutored students in technical
subjects in her spare time. Although she originally aspired to become a university professor, Patricia entered the workforce in 2008 and
joined a prestigious architectural firm before the economy soured.
Unemployed but not disillusioned, Patricia seized the opportunity to apply her passion for storytelling by re-inventing herself as a
journalist. After writing the cover story for the San Francisco Panorama, a literary experiment by Dave Eggers and his McSweeney's team for which
she won a Freedom of Information award from the Northern California Society of Professional Journalists, Patricia began working at the local
wire service. She worked tirelessly as a journalistic vampire — or overnight editor — for six months, and now serves as the swing shift editor,
managing content covering the nine-county Bay Area.
Patricia's hobbies include solving New York Times crossword puzzles, bicycling, long-distance running, and transportation journalism.
